Last July our town celebrated its quasquicentennial (125 years). It turned out to be a good a opportunity to spruce things up. Our shop/office is on main street and we were expecting lots of people in town.
My favorite part of the "spruce up" was this quilt block that I painted. These barn quilts are becoming very popular in Iowa and allover. I have wanted one for a long time but I don't have a barn. Then it dawned on me that I actually had a perfect spot for one. My barn quilt is about 7'x7'. Its been up for about 3 months now and I realize how much I like it everytime I go to work. I enjoyed painting it. I used 2 sheets of plywood that I primed, then marked the pattern and painted the design. After it was hung I decided to make two more to use as a float for the parade at the town celebration. I used 3 different block patterns. I would have enjoyed painting them more if I wasn't working against a deadline, but then I maybe wouldn't have ever gotten them done. I sold the other two to couple of my friends. One has hers hung up, the other is patiently waiting to get hers hung up. I need to get pictures of them. Barn quilts are fun to see around the countryside and I'm glad to have one of my own!
